Breakthrough

Sunday Morning, Acrylic, 5x7

This is the first painting that I have done all summer that I am satisfied with. It was based of a photograph that I took last week. In fact, the day that I took the picture I said to myself, "why haven't I done this sooner". It was last Saturday morning, I woke up, grabbed a cup of coffee and drove around Geauga county taking pictures of all the spots that I have driven by saying, "that would make a great painting". I also ran across many garage sales, so I stopped by and found some great things to paint, hats, silver pitchers, a small guitar. I figured after I finished painting them I could bring them into school for my students to use.

Speaking of school, I stopped by yesterday and the floor was being laid for the new artroom. It is such a big room, with 7 windows, so I have plenty of light. It is really exciting.

Very nice little painting there. I've painted several 5 X 7s myself and it's easy to get hooked on smaller works as they go much faster than the larger ones. Good luck on your auction.~G

Well, I like it. However, according to Lisa you shouldn't be painting from photos. You should have stood outside the church painting from life and praying it would be good.

OK, next Sunday for sure.

Glad you like the painting. I don't know about painting from life, it's a nice idea but pretty much impossible for me to do right now.

Hi, thanks for the nice comment on my blog. I love your little 5x7 painting. I use them all the time. They are fast and more importantly, instant gratification. You can learn a lot from cranking out a 5x7 or two every day. The important thing it to paint often, from life or from photos. Keep painting! Carol

Beautiful!

Have you ever thought of doing a painting of the Portiuncula Chapel at the Franciscan University of Steubenville?

Thanks Portiunicula, I'll give it some thought. I have actually been inside that building, but can't remember what it looks like. It might be time for a road trip.
